4 Simple steps to combat Gum Disease!

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

1. The 2 minute Rule!

Brush very gently for at least 2 minutes, this doesn’t sound very long but get a watch and time yourself and i guarantee you will be very surprised! 2 minutes of brushing optimises the removal of plaque and food debris that you consume on a daily basis.

Brush at least twice a day!

2. Don’t neglect Flossing

Flossing is really important and is often neglected, it gets into those hard to reach places (between the teeth) that a tooth brush just can’t reach.

3. Cut out commercial toothpaste and mouthwash

Yes you heard that right, commercial toothpastes and mouthwash contain several irritants that can make your teeth and gum problems 10 times worse, Opt for a natural toothpaste that doesn’t contain fluoride or SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate) such as Oram Plus

4. Don’t use tobacco products if at all possible.

Smoking has now been proven to be one of the leading factors in the formation of periodontis, so if you were thinking of quitting this could serve as quite a motivator!!

Flossing How To’s

Tuesday, June 6th, 2006

Here’s a neat article that tells all about flossing your teeth. Pictures are included. Our kids have been really diligent to floss their teeth since their recent visits to the dentist. I like dental floss for getting stuff out from between my teeth. Toothpicks always feel like they’re breaking off and making matters worse. With floss, I get the good feeling of picking my teeth and knowing I’m taking good care of them, too.

Flossing is an important part of taking care of your gums and teeth. When you brush, you can only reach so far. With floss, you can get to food particles and plaque you can’t reach otherwise. Once daily is generally considered often enough for flossing.
